Trading in Warframe and on warframe.market: rules, prices and safety

Trading · 4 min read · Updated

You can earn platinum in Warframe without spending any money, and almost all of it moves through player trades. This is what to know before the first one: the game's rules, how warframe.market works, and how not to undersell.

Prices in this guide are as of September 12, 2026. They are recalculated twice a day, but the market moves faster, so check the current price on warframe.market before you trade.

What you need to trade

Trading does not open straight away. The game lets you trade once two conditions are met.

  • Mastery Rank 2 or higher.
  • Two-factor authentication enabled on your account.

Then the limits apply. You get as many trades per day as your Mastery Rank: eight trades at MR 8. The limit resets at 00:00 GMT. In one trade each side offers up to six items.

Trades happen at the trading post in Maroo's Bazaar on Mars or in a clan dojo. The starting platinum a new account gets cannot be traded, so it will not cover your first purchases from players either.

How warframe.market works

warframe.market is a listings site. The game has no noticeboard of its own, so players list what they sell and buy there, then do the actual trade in game through the trade window.

  • A sell order means «I sell this for that much».
  • A buy order means «I will buy this for that much».
  • The seller's status shows whether they are in game right now. Message the ones who are online.

Once you find a listing, the site gives you a ready message to whisper in game. Send it to the seller, agree where to meet, and trade.

How to find a fair price

The most common beginner mistake is looking at the cheapest listing. A listing is a wish, not a sale. Some people list below market to sell in a minute, others listed a month ago and forgot.

The honest number is the price of closed trades: what the item actually sold for in recent days. The Orikon site uses the median of closed trades for every item, and says so plainly where there are none.

If the trade median is well below the cheapest listings, the item does sell, just not at the price on display. Price near the median.

There are 160 prime sets with a live price on the market right now, the median is 59p, and the most expensive is Vectis Prime 139p. Every item with its trade median is on the all items page.

How not to get scammed

The in-game trade window protects both sides: items and platinum are visible before confirming, and any change resets the agreement. Almost every scam happens outside that window or in a hurry.

  • «Send the platinum first, then I'll give you the item». One trade has room for both. A separate transfer is a gift, not a deal.
  • A last-second swap. Reread the whole window before you confirm: the right item, the right count, the right amount.
  • A screenshot saying «I already paid». Trust the trade window, not pictures in chat.
  • Selling for real money. The game's rules forbid it, and there is nowhere to get the money back afterwards.

If a deal needs you to hurry, stop. An honest trade survives an extra minute of checking.

Orikon checks the trade window at the trading post and warns when a price is far below market.

First trades: where to start

  1. Enable two-factor authentication and reach Mastery Rank 2.
  2. Sell what is already sitting unused: built prime sets, spare mods, relics.
  3. Price by the trade median, not the cheapest listing.
  4. Only trade through the trade window, and reread it before confirming.

Five concrete ways to earn platinum, each with today's figure, are in the platinum guide. Selling cheap parts in bulk is in the prime junk guide.
